Top 10 Tuesday: Favourite Words

Hi guys! It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another top 10 courtesy of The Broke and the Bookish . They’re still on hiatus and return next week so I’m doing an old topic which is favourite words. There are so many wonderful words out there that picking just 10 was quite difficult so here are 12 I really like. Fair warning though, I’ve already been told by my sister that my list is a little on the pretentious side.

1. Serendipity

The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

2. Incandescent

Glowing or white with heat; Intensely bright; brilliant.

3. Enchanted

Subject to magical influence; bewitched; Delighted to a high degree.

4. Lullaby

A quiet, gentle song sung to send a child to sleep.

5. Symphony

An elaborate musical composition for full orchestra, typically in four movements, at least one of which is traditionally in sonata form.

6. Solitude

A lonely or uninhabited place; The state or situation of being alone.

7. Inspiration

The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

8. Adventure

An unusual and exciting or daring experience.

9. Silence

Complete absence of sound.

10. Euphoria

A feeling or state of intense excitement and happiness.

11. Atonement

The action of making amends for a wrong or injury.

12. Illusion

A deceptive appearance or impression.

And that’s that! As a bonus, my sister’s favourite word is haemoglobin, especially when you pronounce it with a German accent. I’m also a little partial to the word ‘Dumpling’. Hope you’re all having a wonderful week!

What are some of your favourite words in the English Language?

  1. Such a cute list! I like the word ‘acquiesce’ and ‘tiny’ 😛 they’re just satisfying to say

  2. Serendipity is such a great one! Also, I never realized how cool “atonement” sounds before reading this list. One of my favorite words is “solace.” Great TTT idea!!
